ON MY WAY HOME

ON MY WAY HOME
I stood silent as she buffed the floor
The hum of the motor and soft whirring of cloth against the slick tile
I stood silent and felt the moment you mentioned, the one E.D. describing so aptly
"What do you want?" she said and the words buffeted me as
I stood silent
"You are a custodian." I stated as she continued her work completing her evening shift.
I stood at twenty, in wonder as this quiet woman opened up a door to opportunity
I, not limited by gender or strength, my world turned upside down
Felt that same head rush.
And would forever yearn and seek out that hypnotic seductive reality
Of an independent thought
A new custodian.
