INTERPRET IT

Sinclair Lewis Interpretive Center is Closed (exit sign at Sauk Rapids, guess I am on I-94 one too many times)

The remaining leaf stood watch over the field
Welcomed Monarchs
Veined ochre burned sienna lines
Teased the leaf
Stuck in that rural exit,
Dirt and housing all mundane.
How could its veins now withered
Only crumbs of dust remained
Bring truth through fiction so displayed.
The leaf clung to a stem
Waiting for a flurry of leaves that might
Chatter
Like Monarchs flutter
Danced and fled
While lines from dust remained

A Nobel truth
